Fri, 19 Oct 2018

LightPlan has been awarded a Certificate of Commendation by IES: The Lighting Society (Western Australia Chapter) for the feature lighting design to the facade of the building.

Judges Citation: "The lighting promotes the purpose of space and it is very innovative to re-use existing lamp locations and concepts. The visual effect with the choice of colours is very effective. The existing facade has been restored using original incandescent locations re-created to colour-changing LED. The complexity of the project is heightened when recognising the limitations due to the heritage buiding".

The completion of remedial/restoration works to the front south-facing facade of 128 Murry Street, Perth has seen a new rendered finish which closely matches the finish of the original. The building owner, Western Power, saw this as an ideal opportunity to capture the memory of the original decorative lighting by installing a new contemporary feature lighting system.

The building owners undserstood that concepting, designing and overseeing the feature lighting to the facade would require a high degree of sensitivity and technical prowess so as to create an appropriate and meaningful night-time interpretation of the original decorative lighting system within a heritage preinct.

LightPlan was engaged onto the project design team in May 2017 to provide a full scope of lighting design services.

Our design strategy was to attractively feature the front facade of 128 Murray St to assist in:-

  • providing an attractive and memorable night time interpretation of the building
  • articulating the original decorative façade lighting system
  • communicating familiar themes via an extra lighting layer

Our project goal was to handover a building facade that œunderscores historic memories via a contemporary night-time interpretation.
